Salt Cocoon was part of the 2012 Lumen festival on Staten Island. Lumen is a performance, light and projection based art festival that happens every year in a variety of industrial locations along the North Shore of the Island, one being the Atlantic Salt docking area. The installation was comprised of a video projection of my silhouette with a large beak and feathers. The illusion created by the projection orb embedded inside the salt mound tricked many of the passersby into thinking I was really inside the salt pile for the duration of the night. The character is a very basic folkloric character, a duck/man whose salinated tears continuously evaporate and encase him in a cocoon. It refers to cyclical depression and isolation.
